How To Get From Melbourne Airport To Melbourne City

Melbourne Public Transport

Unfortunately, there is currently no direct Airport Train, so visitors opting for a cheaper, public transport option will have to use a combination of busses, trains and/or trams. The easiest route is to catch the 901 bus from Melbourne Airport (to Frankston) straight to Broadmeadows Station. From here, you can pick up the Craigieburn Line to Flinders Street, placing you in the city centre.

All up, this journey will take about an hour to an hour and a half, with connecting busses coming regularly. All you need is a Myki Card, Melbourne’s travel card of choice, which will get you around the city without a worry!

Cost: starting at $5 using your Myki travel card.

Rideshare From Melbourne Airport

Another good option for getting out of Melbourne from Melbourne Airport is using the popular selection of rideshare services. Both Uber and DiDi are widely used around the inner-Melbourne area and can be both convenient and sometimes affordable options. A great option for those travelling in a group, as most apps offer a split fare tool, making your trip far more affordable. We recommend downloading the apps and setting up your Uber and/or DiDi accounts for easy, last-minute means of getting around.

Cost: ranges from $45 - $100 from Melbourne Airport to Melbourne City. Busy peak periods often cause fares to surge.

Shuttle Bus From Melbourne Airport

Hop on an array of shuttle buses offered as you land in Melbourne. SkyBus is one of the most popular. While we recommend booking in advance to save money and secure your ticket, there are often busses available for booking as you land. Head straight to your accommodation or into the hustle and bustle of the city with this easy and smooth journey option.

Cost: starting from $20pp, booking in advance is recommended.
