Day 1

Let The Surf Roadtrip Begin!

Sydney - Seal Rocks

Your group leader will pick you up from your hostel - it’s time to board the Surf Bus! Settle in, meet your group and hit the road. Your group leader will take you straight to Seal Rocks via Newcastle. Have your first surf lesson and learn the basics from the experts. Afterwards, you're en route to your campsite for the night, so enjoy a dinner under the stars with your group and let the good times roll!

  • Spend a few days before the surf bus living it up in Sydney. Our travel experts can organise a deluxe hostel stay or welcome package for you!

Day 2

Crescent Head Sesh

Seal Rocks - Scotts Head

After an early morning coffee and breakfast in Seal Rocks, continue north for a scenic journey to Crescent Head. This beloved local surf spot is a designated surfing reserve and is far from the usual backpacker route. Catch a few waves at this long point break and explore this charming township, before continuing the adventure to Scotts Head. With bright blue waves and gorgeous shores, relish the feeling of coastal living!

Sunrise & Salty Hair

Scotts Head - Red Rock

Today your group will wake up for a beautiful sunrise over the water, where you might even spot some native Aussie wildlife. Then, continue to your surf lesson at Scotts Head where world tour surfer Trent Munro will take you out. Return to the bus and make your way up to Red Rock where a serene campsite awaits your usual evening of video analysis learning and a fresh dinner!

Day 4

Yeah Yamba! 

Red Rock - Yamba

Soak up stunning scenery in Red Rock, and continue north to Yamba: a surfer’s total dream and quirky beach town! Your lesson is here today with Yamba-Angourie Surf School. Dazzling water, sun-soaked horizons and great waves make day 5 a total dreamscape!

Day 5

Coastal Daze

Yamba - Byron Bay

After your usual breaky and coffee, hop in the van and hit the streets of Byron Bay! Beloved by backpackers and renowned as a bohemian gem of New South Wales, head straight to The Pass and hop in the water. Black Dog Surf School will take your lesson at this iconic long-point break. Enjoy plenty of time in the beautiful Byron Bay, hike up to the lighthouse and explore at your own pace!

Day 6

Adios for now!

Byron Bay - Brisbane

Your final day grants a slower, late coffee and breaky in Byron Bay before hitting the road to Brisbane (meanjin). Everyone will get dropped off at their respective hostels, before saying their goodbyes in colourful Brisbane. Swap socials and memories to go your own way to continue the surfing journey!

  • Any travellers aged 16 and 17 will required a signed consent form from their parent or guardian.
  • Any travellers under 16 will require a parent or guardian to accompany them.
  • This trip is suitable for beginner surfers, and intermediate surfers looking to gain knowledge.
  • Surfers are asked not to bring their own surfboard - everything is provided for you!
  • A moderate level of fitness is recommended to keep up with the daily exercise on this trip.
  • In line with the surf bus's health-centred ethos, travellers are asked to not bring alcohol on this trip.

FAQs

Is the Australian Surf Bus eco-friendly?

All trips on the Australian Surf Bus are now being carbon offset with the help of non-for-profit Reforest Now. For each customer that purchases a spot with Australian Surf Bus, a native Australian species will be planted to offset that person's emissions. We only need 28 customers to totally offset the emissions from the bus using this method!

Which surfing abilities is this trip suited to?

The Surf Bus is designed for beginner to intermediate surfers.

If you have never surfed in your life, this is the perfect trip for you! Or, if you have some surfing experience but want to hone in on your technique through daily classes and video technique analysis, this trip is ideal.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, you are required to organise your own travel insurance prior to this trip.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes, all travellers must be able to swim confidently to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everybody.

Can I bring my own surf board?

Travellers are asked to leave their boards at home and use the gear provided.

Will the trip be cancelled if it rains?

Your guide has a trusty wet-weather plan to ensure this trip goes ahead in most situations.

Will there be Wifi?

Yes, each and every campsite has Wifi available.

What level of fitness do I need?

A moderate level of fitness is recommended for this experience. With daily surfing lessons and guided walks, this trip is best enjoyed if you are relatively active.

Can I bring food?

Yes! A light, healthy breakfast and dinner is provided daily. Feel free to bring and/or purchase your own lunches and snacks.

Can I bring alcohol?

Due to the health and wellbeing-centred nature of this trip, travellers are asked to leave the booze at home. No BYO alcohol.
