FAQs

When's the best time of year to visit New Zealand?

New Zealand's rugged beauty and varied landscapes make for excellent backpacking year-round! The summer months (December to March) bring long, sunny days perfect for spending outdoors, the winter months (June to September) bring snow to the South Island and parts of the North, and the shoulder seasons bring milder weather and fewer visitors.

Who is this tour suitable for?

This is a backpacker style trip, aimed at those happy to stay at nice budget accommodation in multi-share rooms from 4-10 beds.

This trip covers a large part of New Zealand, which means some long travel days, including potential delays due to traffic. It will involve private transport along with some public buses.

When should I arrive for the beginning of my tour?

It’s best to arrive on the actual start date, as that’s when most people get in. Tour operators recommend arriving before 3pm as that is when the tour starts.

Sometimes people like to arrive a day or two before the trip starts so they can do their own exploring or just have a bit of time to chill before all the fun begins.

How are rooms assigned on this trip?

If you are travelling solo, you will be placed in a room with someone of the same gender if it's a twin room. If any accommodation are multi-share rooms, we will do our best to keep it to the same gender, however, occasionally it may be mixed. If you are travelling with others, let your booking agent know and we will put you together.

Does this tour include my airport transfers one days one and nine?

No, this tour does not include your airport transfers. Once you have booked your flights to and from New Zealand, inform the Intro Travel team of your plans through their app or website, so they know when you will be arriving at the accommodation.

A group leader can help arrange a return transfer for you, along with any other onward travel you need.

What time should I book to arrive in New Zealand?

It’s best to arrive on the actual start date.  There are no activities on the first day but the group gets together in the evening for a welcome dinner at around 7pm.

Do I have to get travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory for this trip. You’ll need to show proof of your policy to your group leader upon arrival (on your phone or printed).

Will I need a visa to enter New Zealand?

Visa requirements vary depending on the country you are travelling to and your nationality. It’s your responsibility to check the visa and entry requirements for the country you will be travelling to.

Is there WiFi throughout the trip?

All accommodations you stay at will have free Wi-Fi available. New Zealand’s Wi-Fi is generally good.
