Meet At Fingal Head

Your tour begins by arriving at the Fingal Head Boat Ramp to meet your tour guide and the rest of your small group. Look out for the Blue Seafaris flag. Check-in 15 minutes prior to the tour departing for your mandatory safety briefing with your knowledgeable tour guide who has years of experience facilitating incredible encounters with large marine animals, including humpback whales! After the safety briefing, jump aboard ready to head out to open ocean waters!

Chance Encounter With Dolphins & Other Marine Life

As you travel out the mouth of the Tweed River in a fast and stable military style boat, you'll be treated to stunning views of the Gold Coast's beautiful coastline. Admire the long pristine beaches, rugged cliffs of Fingal Head Causeway and crystal-clear waters as you make your way offshore to find some whales to swim with! Keep your eyes peeled for playful dolphins, seabirds and other marine life along the way. Soak in the breathtaking scenery and get excited for your unforgettable encounter with the majestic humpback whales.

The real fun begins as you reach Cook Island and the search for whales begins. With over 35,000 Humpbacks travelling along the East Coast of Australia, sightings are guaranteed, however, it’s up to the whales if they want to swim with you. Your highly experienced skipper is accustomed to swimming with whales around the world and knows how to spot happy, playful and curious whale behaviour. Humpbacks are very gentle and curious creatures and will often approach the boat to say hello. Since whale season is during the winter months, your guide will provide you with a 5mm wetsuit with hood, mask and fins to help stay warm during your once-in-a-lifetime encounter swimming with whales in Australia. Don’t forget your underwater camera to capture this incredible moment!

Return To Fingal Head

After spending 3-4 magical hours out in the big blue swimming with the ocean's gentle giants and making unforgettable memories, it’s time to jump back on the boat and return to shore. If you did the early morning tour, you’ll be back at the boat ramp around midday, with the rest of your afternoon free. If your tour was the afternoon departure, you’ll be back on land around 4 or 5pm.

Important Information

  • This tour operates on a seasonal basis during the whale migration months from June to October. 
  • If you are prone to seasickness, it is recommended to take motion sickness medication to ensure you have an enjoyable experience. Drink plenty of water, and try to avoid coffee, acidic juices and greasy food. 
  • Tour departures are subject to inclement weather and ocean conditions being suitable for a safe and enjoyable experience and can be changed at short notice.
  • Every participant is required to complete a liability waiver prior to travel. 
  • A proficient swimming ability is essential to participate in this tour, given the demands of swimming in deep open waters.
