Boulders Cairns

Babinda Boulders

Kick off your adventure through the Atherton Tablelands with a visit to Babinda Boulders. This free-flowing creek is full of crystal clear fresh water that is the perfect respite from the Queensland heat. Named for its huge boulders and rock formations scattered throughout the creek, Babinda Boulders is surrounded by enchanting rainforest and has a fairy-tale-like feel. Enjoy some time at this serene oasis before heading on to the next stop!

Josephine Falls

Josephine Falls and Lunch

Josephine Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls to visit outside of Cairns! With three tiers of cascades, a spacious freshwater swimming hole, and even a natural waterslide, you’ll have a blast soaking in the gorgeous view and swimming in the waterfall. After some time at Josephine Falls, you’ll head over to the local cafe called the Tea Room for a hearty 2-course lunch.

Millaa Millaa Falls

Millaa Millaa Falls

Next, you’ll venture over to Millaa Millaa Falls! This is one of the most famous waterfalls in Tropical North Queensland. Measuring at just over 18 metres tall, this powerful cascade tumbles down through the thick jungle and plunges into a large swimming hole. Here you can snap some photos, go for a dip, or just relax on the grass and admire the majestic views!

Lake Eacham

Lake Eacham

After enjoying Millaa Millaa Falls, head to another natural wonder of the Atherton Tablelands: Lake Eacham. Located in Crater Lakes National Park, this massive lake is set in a volcanic crater that formed due to eruptions around 10,000 years ago. This ancient wonder is one of the most beautiful lakes near Cairns, and you’ll have plenty of time here to swim, take photos, stroll around, and relax.

Yungaburra

Platypus Spotting

Last on the agenda for this epic Atherton Tablelands adventure is platypus spotting! This mysterious little creature is endemic to Australia and often roams the lakes and creeks around Yungaburra. You’ll head over to this quaint little town and visit the platypus-viewing platform. Though wildlife sightings are never 100% guaranteed, having your expert local guides with you may increase your chances of seeing a platypus! Note that this particular activity is only available from April to October.

This was the highlight of our trip! Cousin Pauly was the best guide, he made the entire day so fun and entertaining, and also had so much knowledge to share about Carins ("cannnnssss"). The food was great too, they were very accommodating for vegetarians, didn't expect to be so well fed! Would recommend it to everyone. Thanks Pauly!!!!

I cannot fault this trip, it was planned perfectly down to every detail. The tour guide - Kurt put in two long days a shift to keep us entertained, comfortable and inspired by everything we saw. He had incredible knowledge about the local areas and I learnt so much. I also think for what is included the price you get a lot for your money. This is by far the best tour I’ve been on in Australia and perhaps globally!
