Spaceship Vehicle Hire Policies

Customers hiring a vehicle with Spaceship are responsible for checking the most up-to-date policies with both East Coast Tours and Spaceship before hiring, collecting and/or driving a Spaceship vehicle.

Customers hiring a Spaceship vehicle through East Coast Tours are subject to both Spaceship's and East Coast Tour's policies. These terms and conditions are subject to change at any time.

Spaceship Terms And Conditions 

Please note, there are additional terms and conditions that will be given to you upon pickup of your rental. These must be complied with. These terms and conditions include but are not limited to:

• Driver and drivers license requirements
• Where you cannot drive the Vehicle
• Use of vehicle
• Maintenance, security and safety

Inclusions

Your Spaceship campervan includes unlimited kilometres, standard insurance, 10% GST, 24-hour roadside assistance, activity deals, a road map, campground brochures, internal and external sleeping options, linen and bedding plus cutlery and crockery. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Hiring Optional Equipment

Please note, that all extra items such as side awnings are subject to availability. Let us know at the earliest available opportunity if you need something. 

Excess Reduction

There are three different insurance (vehicle protection) options. Standard insurance is included with every Spaceships campervan hire, but it comes with excess or bond. We'll explain those words below. For complete peace of mind, we recommend the Stress-Free insurance option.

What does excess mean?

Excess is the maximum amount of money that you're liable for when something happens to your campervan. It's the part of an insurance claim that you as the insured person need to pay.

How to reduce your excess

It's easy to reduce your excess to $0 when travelling with Spaceships. We have an insurance option that will give you complete peace of mind. No worries.

Stress-Free excess reduction offers the best cover (recommended)

The Stress-Free is the most popular option for travellers as it reduces your excess (bond) to $0. It provides your vehicle with the maximum cover available, so you can relax and enjoy your holiday stress-free. It is the insurance option we highly recommend.

Please be aware that the Stress-Free excess reduction option isn't a travel insurance policy. We suggest you get this added to cover any changes in your personal travel plans, personal property or injury.

What's included with each insurance option?

The cover provided by each option is set out below. The Stress-Free option includes every item in this list.

You acknowledge that cover will be denied under Standard excess liability; “ Liability Reduction Option 1” and “Liability Reduction Option 2” insurance if: 

• (a) there is any water-related damage such as vehicle submersion, creek or river crossing, beach driving or driving through low-plain flooded areas; 
• (b) you breach the terms of this Agreement;
• (c) you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
• (d) damage is caused by reckless and/or dangerous driving;
• (e) you drive on restricted, closed, dirt of unsealed roads (non-concrete, non-tarmac);
• (f) the articles damaged are appliances or fixtures inside the Vehicle unless in the case of a motor accident;
• (g) do not use Multiple USB Ports in the cigarette lighter socket as this may cause damage to the electrics (e.g. blown fuses, malfunction of radio/ air con as they are on the same circuit). Damage caused by using a Multiple USB Port will not be covered by insurance.
• (h) damage caused by single vehicle rollover. A single vehicle rollover is considered a breach of our terms and conditions and you will be liable for a full recovery and replacement costs.

Unpermitted Activity

Spaceship do not permit any vehicles on:

• Any unsealed roads (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete).
• Fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields or paddocks are also not permitted. The only exception to this is reasonable use of access roads to recognised commercial campgrounds.

• Any road which is closed or restricted.

• On beaches or through streams, dams, rivers or flood-waters. 

In the event of any accident, you must immediately complete, in full, the accident claim form provided to you at pick up as part of your rental papers. You acknowledge that failure to provide complete and accurate details related to the accident will result in administrative fees of $330, and, where applicable, police report fees of $100.00 regardless of your liability reduction.

If you have an accident with All Inclusive Insurance and are found to be at fault there is a $100 Administration Fee (includes an incident involving wildlife). 

4 x Berth Roof Pod – You are covered under The All Inclusive Option. However you are not covered if the damage is a single vehicle accident through negligence (this includes but is not limited to damage through hitting other objects – car park roofs, trees, low-lying structures etc)

Minimum Driver Age & Requirements 

Spaceship accepts drivers 18 years and over who hold:

• A Full Driver Licence in English
• An Australian Red P Plate (P1) Licence and have held their licence for a minimum of 6 months.
• If the Licence is not in English, then you will need an International Driver's Permit or a Certified Translation of the home country Driver's Licence. This must accompany the home country Driver's Licence.

Calculating Rental Days

Rental days are calculated on a calendar day basis. When calculating the number of days the Vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental regardless of drop-off time.

One-way Hires

Spaceship allows customers the flexibility to pick up and drop off the Spaceship cars and campervans at any of these locations across Australia. No fees apply for one-way hires.

Please note, that all one-way hires must be approved by Spaceship and are subject to availability.

Extra Fees 

Spaceships and East Coast Tours reserve the right to pass on any charges that may be incurred such as booking fees, transfer fees, local taxes and levies to the customer.

A fee applies for credit and debit cards.

Roadside Assistance

Spaceships vehicle hires come with complimentary roadside assistance. Details are provided upon pick up of your vehicle.

Fees may apply if there are issues due to a fault of the driver.

When booking through East Coast Tours, customers are subject to cancellation policies and fees from both Spaceship and East Coast Tours/Mr Travel.

A failure to collect your vehicle from the specific depot at the specified time, or a "no show" will result in a forfeit of your ticket and any hire fees/costs.

We strongly recommend you cover yourself with a comprehensive travel insurance policy.

Vehicle Collection Process

All bookings MUST reconfirm 24-48 hours prior to vehicle collection with Spaceship.

Security & Bond Documents 

• Please note, you MUST have a credit card to hire a Spaceship Car, as this is used for security & bond purposes.
• You also MUST present a current valid driver's licence when collecting the vehicle,  if the licence of an Authorised Driver is not printed in English it must be accompanied by an accredited English translation or an international driver's licence.

Failure to collect vehicle

A failure to collect your vehicle from the specific depot at the specified time, or a "no show" will result in a forfeit of your ticket and any hire fees/costs.
